BASEBALL BATS

There is a lot of technology put into baseball bats these days. There are three main construction types: Composite, Aluminum Alloy, Hybrid (composite handle/aluminum barrel).

COMPOSITE

  • Feel the most balanced (lighter)
  • Preferred by most high school players
  • Performance can improve over time (gets hotter after break in)
  • Not recommended for use in cold weather (under 55F)
  • Usually the most expensive
  • Largest sweet spot

ALUMINUM ALLOY

  • Less expensive than composite
  • Stiffer and heavier feel than composite (end loaded)
  • Preferred by most college players
  • Hot out of the wrapper (no break in period)
  • Smaller sweet spot than composite
  • Performance degrades over time
  • Does not crack as often as composite

HYBRID COMPOSITE HANDEL/ALUMINUM BARREL

  • Tend to feel more end-loaded
  • Hot out of the wrapper (no break in period)
  • Preferred by most college players
